Job description

Car mechanics work at car technical maintenance and repair facilities, car diagnostics centres, car technical inspection points and similar companies.
Car mechanics are able to perform technical maintenance, technical condition diagnostics and repair. They prevent car and its components damage by changing parts, joints and systems performing disassembling and assembling activities, renew spare parts or their joints, accomplishing fitting tasks. Car mechanics are able to communicate with clients and manage lower qualification employees.

Special requirements in the specialty

- To diagnose car defects;
- To conduct car maintenance and prevent car failure;
- To be able to use special equipment (e.g. clutch disk alignment peg, piston rings mounting and dismantling bars, stroboscope, swivel joints dismantling device etc)
- To use professional literature (manufacturer’s published as well as Autodata, Haynes etc)
- To use various industrial machines and equipment:
- car lifter;
- emery grinding machine;
- stationary drilling machine;
- hand press to mount and balance tires;
- engine tester;
- exhaust gases analyzer;
- brake stand;
- wheel alignment stand;
- lights adjustment stand;
- other equipment depending on the company specifics;
- to consider safety rules working with:

Job description

Car electricians work in car dealerships, technical inspection companies and repair workshops.
The perform car electrical equipment and electronic control systems installation, diagnostics, repair and change. They equip cars with additional electrical or electronic equipment and systems, considering manufacturer’s technological requirements

Specific skills in the profession

- To use and apply the appropriate technology for electrical equipment and electronic control systems repair and maintenance;
- To detect possible electrical and electronic systems damage;
- To select the appropriate materials and tools;
- To prepare electronic control systems for repair;
- To conduct electrical parameters, i.e. voltage, current and resistance measurement and analysis;
- To prepare electrical installation schemes;
- To apply automotive systems diagnostic testers, control equipment and electronic measurement tools;
- To analyse measurements and diagnostics data readings and localise damage;
- To equip cars with alarm, anti-theft, audio and video and other similar equipment;
- To integrate additional electrical and electronic  systems in the automotive infrastructure;
- To detect parts, joints and systems to be changed and repaired;
- To prevent electronic control systems damage;
- To select the required components of electronic circuit;
- To calculate resource consumption;
- To estimate time required for repair in accordance with normative acts.
